Elise Corpato

1994, Fribourg, Switzerland

Biography

A Swiss artist whose work balances on the edge of irony and sincerity. Her artistic journey began with training at the Lausanne School of Art (ECAL), which she graduated from in 2018. She then continued her education in Basel, earning a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in 2020.

In her works, Eliz often addresses everyday, almost banal subjects: sunsets, calendar pages, and simple patterns, sometimes complementing them with text. Critics note her ability to work with color, transforming mundane images into objects for prolonged contemplation. This style is compared to the aesthetics of social media, but transposed into the physical space of painting.

In addition to her artistic practice, Corpato is actively involved in curatorial work at the independent space Wall Riss in Fribourg. Her career has been marked by rapid growth: from participating in group exhibitions in Geneva and Basel to her first solo exhibition in Zurich. Recognition from the professional community is confirmed by prestigious awards, including the Kiefer Hablitzel Award (2021) and grants from the city of Basel.
