Niman Abavi
1978, Tehran, Iran
Biography
Born in Iran, but raised in the United Arab Emirates.
He now lives between Dubai and New York, dedicating himself to abstract art based on a mathematical approach and contemplative embodiment of complex geometric figures.
Using primarily feathers, paints, and rulers, the artist creates intricate constructions from simple forms through repeated numerical symbols and thousands of hand-drawn lines and pixels. This mathematical approach is based on meticulous planning, calculations, and several self-developed techniques that ensure size accuracy.
Abavi was awarded the first prize of the BULGARI Contemporary Art Award in 2022, established in collaboration with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. His works have been featured in books such as "Geometry" and "Art in the Contemporary Middle East," as well as in publications like Southwest Contemporary and Canvas.
Abavi’s works are included in private and public collections, including the Deutsche Bank collection (Germany), the Jameel Arts Centre (UAE), and the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art (New Mexico).
